I have only had my big girl DSLR since October of 2009. I bought the Canon 7D along with my first prime lens, the 85mm f/1.8. Go throw your kit lenses away and invest in a prime lens, there are some great primes out there that won’t break the bank! For Canon there’s the 85mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4, 35mm f/2.0.

70-200mm f/2.8 L (I have the non IS version and am loving it so far!)

16-35mm f/2.8 L II (oh mama, think of the scope you could get with this baby!)
24mm f/1.4 L II (hubba hubba)
85mm f1.2 L II (sigh)
