His work is inspiring long after his death.

His life was legendary.

Plus, he wrote things like this:

“To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces and record the qualities of nature and humanity which live or are latent in all things.”

“The negative is the equivalent of the composer’s score, and the print the performance.”

“The only things in my life that compatibly exists with this grand universe are the creative works of the human spirit.”

“There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.”

“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.”

“A good photograph is knowing where to stand.”

“A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed.’

“A photograph is usually looked at – seldom looked into. “

“A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words.”

“Sometimes I do get to places just when God’s ready to have somebody click the shutter. “

Ansel Adams

The last time we got family photos taken Myles was still in diapers and Neo did not exist. The amazingly talented Krystal Muellenberg changed all that for us! She even managed to shoot most of our session with her almost two-year old Chase strapped to her back! Now that’s talent! We were so glad she brought her kids along, they were a great distraction for our two and we all just relaxed and played around.

The thing about Krystal is she’s not only talented and knowledgable… she is humble and incredibly nice. She let me follow her around while she shot this wedding back in June, which was so much fun and such a learning experience. All those years in college that we knew each other, and were friends, but not great friends… wasted years!

You can view our full family session on Krystal’s blog. Here’s a sneak peek…

Thank you a million times over Krystal, our time with you was incredible! It was a joy to run around with you and your “crew” in downtown LaCrosse!

I wrote a little bit ago about ordering my Kelly Moore bag. Many of you have wanted to know if I like it. Well, here’s the story. After being away for yet another week, it was great to arrive home and have a package to open! I opened the box to find my bag wrapped in another bag labeled “Kelly Moore.” It felt so decadent! The truth is, when I opened the bag, my heart sank just a little. The bag seemed overwhelmingly big.

This coming from a person who is always carrying a big bag. A big diaper bag, a big tote and a big camera bag… I have no fear of big bags, but this bag seemed like a ginormous “unsafe for my gear because there are no real closures” box. I realized after I got the bag that serious closures are a big deal for me because we travel by air a lot (africa to america, america to africa is my life!). I wanted to be able to place the bag on its side and put it in the overhead compartment. If the closure is a magnet, “no can do.” Duh, should have thought of that one awhile ago.

I tried to convince myself that all of this was not true for several days. Then finally, I wrote Kelly Moore to say I would be returning the bag. I wanted to write, “but I still love you Kelly Moore.” ¬†Then I realized it would probably not be her responding to my emotionally charged email, so I held myself back!

The next day I pick up a Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home on SALE, and I have never looked back!

I love it. It just goes to show, you need to find your own way, figure out what is going to work for you and move forward with it! Even if it means returning something! What works for one photog may not work for you, and that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. There’s only one you. There’s only one me, and there are a whole lot of bags. ¬†This blog post by Vera Lana is very helpful if you are in the camera bag hunt.

I am so excited. This morning I finally did it. I placed my order for this Kelly Moore bag.

Now I just have to WAIT for it to arrive.

That’s the hard part!

Thanks to Natalie Norton for introducing me to the ultimate camera bag.

If you are a wanna be photog like me, go to Natalie’s workshop. Seriously.
